The Institute has created Professor P.R. Brahmananda Endowment Research Fund with a donation from his family members. The Endowment Research Corpus is utilised to award research grant to researchers working in Monetary and Macro Economics. The topics chosen for this year’s research award are:

  1. Monetary Policy in an Environment of Financial Innovation

  2. NPA Problems of Indian Banks: Relationship Banking or Weak Regulation?

  3. Fiscal Dominance of Monetary Policy: Theory and Indian Reality

  4. Regional Dimensions of Monetary Policy

  5. Indian Monetary Policy in the time of inflation targeting and demonetization

Interested researchers are invited to send in their proposals for writing the Paper on the above theme chosen for the year or submit completed paper, for consideration. The Institute will offer a research award of Rs.35,000/- for the best judged work which can be published in the Journal of Social and Economic Development (ISEC Journal) or any other reputed refereed Journal. The author will have freedom to publish it elsewhere with due acknowledgement to the Institute and the Fund.

The proposals / completed papers should reach the Institute, in the prescribed form, on or before 30th September 2023. Duly filled in applications along with the proposals / completed papers should be sent to the Registrar, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Dr. V.K.R.V. Ground Rules for Professor P.R. Brahmananda Endowment Fund

  1. The Institute has received an Endowment Fund of Rs.5.00 lakh from the family members of Professor P.R. Brahmananda.

  2. The Board of Governors of ISEC in its meeting held on 20.6.2009 has decided to offer a research award in Monetary Policy every year. The theme of the research project shall be decided by the Director in consultation with the known experts in Monetary Economics. The first year’s project for the award was ‘Aspects of Monetary Policy in India since Independence’ (2009), and the procedure was set in as follows.

  3. The faculty Members of Centre for Economic Studies and Policy shall be asked to suggest a list of topics and these will be shortlisted by priority. Once again third expert will be asked to suggest the best among the topics to be announced for the award.

  4. The Endowment Fund is kept in a deposit in the Bank and the interest earned therein shall be utilized for paying a research grant of Rs.35,000/- annually and to meet other administrative expenses.

  5. Under the Programme, proposals for research shall be invited from young researchers on the theme chosen. An advertisement inviting such proposal shall be released in Economic and Political Weekly besides posting it on ISEC Website. The Director shall also send a few invitations to eminent academicians for suggesting suitable person or writing the research papers.

  6. The applicants / invitee should apply using the prescribed form for the purpose. The applicants seeking the research grant should submit one copy of his / her proposal. The proposals shall be sent for review by faculty member of Centre for Economic Studies and Policy.

  7. The best proposal from out of the short-listed / qualified proposals shall be selected for the research award by a Committee of experts constituted by the Director.

  8. The selected academician shall submit three copies of the Draft Project Report with a panel of six names to facilitate sending the report for refereeing. The Draft Report has to be finalized in the light of the referees’ comments. Joint applicants / Joint research proposals are not accepted.

  9. The sanctioned amount shall be released in two installments as follows:

    a. 40% after the acceptance of the Project;

    b. 60% after the acceptance of the Final Manuscript revised on the basis of experts comments.

  10. One copy of the Final Report and a soft copy (email) should be prepared with due acknowledgement to Professor P.R. Brahmananda Endowment Fund and submitted to the Institute in final settlement of the research Award.
